What Is The Best
Tactical Flashlight In 2018?

The darkness can be the greatest enemy or the greatest ally of any prepper or survivalist.

The darkness can hide your enemies, confuse your senses, and significantly increase the danger you are facing.

Or you can control the darkness.

A tactical flashlight is a great way to exhibit your control over the darkness. Tactical flashlights are often more compact, more durable, and brighter than a regular flashlight.

As such, they make for great every day carry items.

Here's our in depth review of the best tactical flashlight of 2018. If you don't want to read the whole review, here's a nice table inserted by our awesome graphic designer:

Who Needs A Tactical Flashlight?

Tactical flashlights are great for anyone who loves to be outdoors. Since tactical flashlights are usually bright, compact, and durable, they make for great every day carry items.

A tactical flashlight will be useful to anyone who likes to camp, fish, or hunt. The size and weight of most tactical lights makes them very easy to carry around and they are easily put inside any packs you'll carry.

Since most attacks happen in the dark, tactical flashlights also make for great self-defense weapons. They can both light up dark places and deliver deadly blows to adversaries.

Tactical flashlights make great additions to a car bag, a purse, or other items that can easily hide this useful weapon and tool.

What Tactical Flashlights Can Do

Tactical flashlights (obviously) light things up. Instead of talking about what all tactical flashlights can do, it's must more simple to explain how they are different from regular flashlights.

First, tactical flashlights are designed for survival situations. This means that they are built to last in a way that most regular flashlights have trouble competing with.

Tactical flashlights are usually extremely bright compared to regular lights and have a tendency to go further and wider than comparable flashlights.

Second, tactical flashlights are made to be more durable than their oh-so-normal cousins. Tac lights are usually able to be run over, submerged, thrown off a building, and hit against someone's head.

Finally, tactical flashlights are made to get you noticed if you need help. Most tactical flashlights will come with several light settings (high, low, strobe, SOS, etc.) just so that when you need them, they will be there.

How To Choose The Best Tactical Flashlight For You

Tactical flashlights, like most tactical gear, have levels of variation.

Some are designed simply to provide the brightest light possible and have an extremely high lumen count.

Other flashlights are made to double as self-defense weapons. These flashlights are usually longer and may be made of tougher material.

Finally, there is often a size difference in some of the flashlights. All will fit nicely into your hand, but some will be longer or shorter than others.

When all is said and done, the best flashlight for you will ultimately come down to which one fits your preferences. Some are even a little bit better lookin' than others, so don't be afraid to pick one just because it'll make you the coolest kid on the block.

Happy picking!

Anker has gone out of their way to produce a tactical flashlight that has few true competitors.

Their LC90 tactical flashlight is a bright one, ranking in at about 900 lumens on its highest setting.

While I couldn't find that it was waterproof, I did see that it was water resistant. No specifics on exactly what this means, but no reviews I saw complained of water damage and the description says that this flashlight was made for heavy rain scenarios.

It has five settings, three of which are pretty standard (high, medium, low), but two of which are extremely neat (strobe and SOS).

The SOS pattern clearly sends out SOS signals with the light and would be great if someone was trying to be rescued.

The Anker LC90 comes with a rechargeable battery and an 18 month warranty.

Pros

  • Bright
  • Five different settings
  • Has SOS setting
  • High durability and made to last
  • Water resistant
  • Rechargeable
  • 18 month warranty

Cons

  • Not waterproof
  • Not as bright as some

PeakPlus has made a solid and outstanding flashlight with this one.

At 1000 lumens, it ranks in as one of the brighter lights on this list and with five different settings, there are many ways to use this powerful flashlight.

The five settings, as with the Anker LC90, are High, Medium, Low, Strobe, and SOS.

The PeakPlus Super Bright is made out of slightly inferior materials to the two lights above, so it loses some durability points here.

It does come with a 30 day money back guarantee if you aren't completely satisfied.

Pros

  • Very bright
  • Five different settings
  • Rechargeable
  • Pretty durable
  • Water resistant
  • Has SOS setting
  • 30 day money back guarantee

Cons

  • Not water proof
  • Slightly inferior durability than some on this list

The Hyper V is the definition of a compact flashlight. Measuring in at 5.2 inches, it's certainly not the biggest of the bunch, but it can seriously light up a room.

The Hyper V, while bright, is less bright than many on this list. It clocks in at about 400 lumens on its highest setting.

I didn't see a single complaint about the toughness and durability of the object, but it definitely isn't water proof and, depending on the zoom, may not even be water resistant.

The Hyper V comes with three settings: high, low, and strobe.

All J5 flashlights, including the Hyper V, are sold with a one year warranty.

Pros

  • Brighter than most regular flashlights
  • Three different settings
  • Durable
  • One year warranty

Cons

  • Not waterproof or resistant
  • Not as bright as many on this list
  • Fewer settings than many on this list

The J5 Tactical V1 is much like the Hyper V's little brother.

It ranks in at about 300 lumens on its brightest setting and comes with three settings: high, low, and strobe.

Again, there were no complaints on toughness or durability, but like the Hyper V, the Tactical V1 may not even be water resistant if it's stretched out on a zoom.

This mini comes with a one year warranty.

Pros

  • Durable
  • Very compact
  • Uses only a single AA battery
  • One year warranty

Cons

  • Not very bright
  • May not be water resistant if zoomed
  • Only three settings
